Hair Stylist Skylar
I had the opportunity to have my hair done by Skylar. She was so excited to do it and had a fun time. She kept giggling the whole time she was doing it. It was pretty cute. I see a great future for her. :)

Hair Cut
YAY! I finally went through with it and got my hair cut today! So worth the drive to Lehi to have my awesome friend Caryl cut it again. She does a fantastic job!
Thank you Caryl Ward!
Thank you Caryl Ward!
Lots of people (especially Kerby) ask me why I always get so much cut off so I'm going to show you why. Oh and hey at least it's not cut to or above my chin this time, I haven't done that for 3 or 4 years.
See those hairs? Well there 6 or 7 strands there and they ALL have 2 to 3 splits in them. My worst habit is to peel my split ends. When I'm bored, nervous and so many other emotions I pick up a chunk of hair and search for split ends to peel apart. I love it! It's soooo bad for my hair yet I continue to do it. The only time I don't do it is when I get my hair cut, then I don't do it for about 5 or 6 months. Well, at this stage my hair was really bad and I could easily pick up a chunk of hair and find several strands with 2 or 3 splits in them! My favorite! What makes it even better is when my hair is wet and I find some, when it's wet you can pull it in half all the way to the root, so much fun! Pretty sad huh? I'm totally ruining my hair by doing it, that's why I have to cut so much off because the damage is so far up. :( No worries though it grows pretty fast, in fact I'm glad I'm blogging about this because I can see just how fast it does grow.
Oooh that just looks so fun! I actually made sure I had lots of fun today before they were gone. I even recorded a short little video for you all to see how well I've mastered the art of peeling my split ends but unfortunately I still can't get videos to load. So, you'll just have to imagine (actually if you've been around me very much you don't have to imagine very hard).
There's all my hair. Not enough to donate this time but I have donated 3 different times and I believe each time was about 12 inches. This time it was REALLY unhealthy though, as you can see by the split ends.
Here I am getting some highlights.
Here are before and after pictures from today. :) It feels really good to have all that hair gone.
So refreshing, light and healthy.
Caryl, you really are the best!
Here is the other reason my hair had so many split ends (besides from me picking them). Last April the day before Hawaii! I decided to highlight my own hair! Huge mistake!!!! Never again will I highlight my own hair, or let a non-professional highlight it! This sort of thing should be left to the pros. I followed the instructions perfectly and got these terrible results. Of course I immediately fell apart and started bawling. I called up my sister Kylee who knew more about hair than I did and we had come up with 3 solutions! 1. Die it all black. (I didn't want black hair with my super pale face for my dream Hawaii vacation the next day). Of course that made me cry even harder. 2. Bleach it ALL the yellow/white color it made. Yes, that made me cry even harder. DEVASTATING! Can you imagine? I could and it was NOT pretty! 3. Wear a wig of beautiful long blonde (real) hair of Kylee's and just hope and pray that it would stay on my head at all times, including while swimming in the water!!! Yep, you guessed it, I cried some more.
Well, after thinking for a while I decided to call my friend Caryl and see if she knew how to fix it. I know it's hard to tell in the picture below on the left but she was able to fix it! She did an excellent job! I cried again, only that time it was tears of joy. Caryl, you're wonderful! The picture below is the next day in Hawaii at the Dole factory enjoying one of my favorite things about the vacation, some Dole Whipped Pineapple. YUM! I'll have to post some pics of Hawaii on here some time soon.
Here I found a picture from 3 months later where you can see my hair really good.
Caryl, thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking me in at a late hour and on the spot. This was one of the most devastating moments of my life, I had no idea hair could recover so well after that. Thanks for your expertise, my hair was hideous. No more do it your self highlights for me! In fact this may be the last time I get it highlighted, I really like how it looks but I may stop.

3 Buns
I tried a new hair-do on Skylar again, it turned out pretty cute, it will be much cuter when her hair is thicker. Also I think I need to take a bobby-pin class because I am not good with them and I can't ever get them to stay in very good. After a couple hours her hair was falling out.
Oh ya and no Skylar isn't sulking in the corner. I don't remember what I said to her about taking a picture but she thought I said hide and seek, so she was getting ready to count. :)
Start with 3 pony tails.
Twist the hair into a bun.
Hold together with a bobby-pin.
And you're done. Put some ribbon or flowers or whatever in it or just leave it, it's pretty either way.
I really want to try this on my hair but I think it might be too thick. Plus I'm getting it cut soon, maybe I'll try it before, we'll see. Of course you'll find out if I do.

Double Heart Hair-Do
A couple Sunday's ago we saw this hair-do in my sisters ward and we (my sisters and I) all fell in love with it and I just had to do it. I tried it on Sunday without twisting it and it worked and looked really cute but it kept losing it's heart shape. So, today I decided to try twisting it and bobby pinning it and it's still in heart shapes after all day. So cute! Perfect for Valentine's Day!
This is how it looked on Sunday without the twist. I actually like the look better but it doesn't stay (at least not without bobby pins).
This is when I did it today. Start with 2 pony tails.
Pull on the elastic to loosen the pony tail a little.
Put your fingers or a topsy tail tool (I made my own with wire and electrical tape a while ago) up into the hair above the elastic.
Put the hair inside the loop.
Pull the hair back up through your hole.
This is how it looks.
Split the hair into 2 sections.
Twist each section to the outside.
Then put together with another elastic.
Make the heart shape and secure from behind with a bobby pin.
Her hair is still pretty thin but I'm sure with thicker hair you wouldn't even see the bobby pins.
Put a cute red or pink (or whatever color) ribbon or barrette where the elastic is. I made the cute barrette's she's wearing after searching forever for some at stores with no luck.
For the next side I decided to braid it with fishtails to see how it looked. So split the hair into 2 sections and then split each section into 2 to do the fishtail braid. I won't go into that more today, maybe that will be another post. Especially since this is the first time I've done a fishtail in about 17 years.
There's one side finished.
After doing both sides put them together with an elastic.
Then make your heart. I really liked how this looked too, you could even do just a regular braid. I'll be doing this hair-do quite often. Thanks to the creative woman at church for the idea, and to Maren for pointing it out. I think I'll try some other things with the heart-do too.
Which do you like best, the twist or the braid, or i guess even the loose one I did first on Sunday?Thursday, January 5, 2012
New hair-do. Elastic bands
First of all some new things that I try take more than a day to complete and post so that I have a good, full review and story to tell.
I put Skylar's hair in elastic bands because I'd heard that this style would hold in their hair for a long time without you redoing their hair, then I saw a little girl with her hair like this and decided to try it. It didn't turn out how I wanted it, I think I need to be faster at it so Skylar doesn't get upset and bored. She was ready to be done after I'd put the first 5 elastics in. I need to do it more and then it will look better, although I think it still looks really cute. I'm not even sure I did it right, I just sort of made it up as I went.
Start by putting just a little of the front of her hair in an elastic hair band.
Then take the section below that and split it in two or three (I did 3). Then take the section already in the elastic and split it into 3 and put each of those sections with the three lower sections.
You can tell by the picture if my words aren't making sense. After doing that continue and do the same with the lower section either splitting the hair into two or three sections and hooking them together.
This is the last section she let me do on the first day. See how there's one section left that's not attached to another section, now I need to grab another section and attach them.
This was the end result for day one, she just wouldn't let me do anymore so she wore her hair like this for two days.
It actually looked really cute, just the two ends poking out bugged me a little bit but everyone really liked it.
Day three I finished it, the front still looked good, just a little fuzzy so I just sprayed some hairspray on it and patted it down. I took the 9 sections I had and put them into their groups of three. Then I put each group of three into it's own elastic band (I didn't part her hair very well).
You can then leave it like this as well but I decided to finish it off.
Just put the three sections into one elastic band. The result is really cute and last for a long time. She wore it like this for two days, she still had her baths I just didn't wash her hair. I might have kept it in longer but her hair got caught on a button and some of it came out so I took it out.
I had Landon that day and decided to see how he'd look with his hair pulled up. Haha!
He was not happy about it at first!
Then Skylar told him he looked so pretty and he got a huge grin.
I tell ya he sure didn't like me putting them in! Don't worry, I took them out right after I snapped this photo. Sorry Tina and Jason. HAHAHAHA!
This is Skylar with her hair-do in her new dress I bought on sale after Christmas. I had to take this with my phone because my camera was missing in action....again. I didn't realize you couldn't really see her hair. Although you can see it's pretty fuzzy, I sprayed a little hairspray on it after that and it was a little better.
